About
I feel most alive when I’m making art; synapses firing, total concentration, total immersion. As the work gradually comes into being, I cease to exist. I love dinosaurs, nature, and learning how the world works. I love stories, emotions, and intrigue. In my art, I try to combine these two sets of elements. I graduated from the RISD-CE Natural Science Illustration certificate program in June 2016, studying under local artist Amy Bartlett Wright.
When choosing a composition and medium, I try to balance complexity with exploring new territory. If the subject is complex, I gravitate towards a medium with a high degree of control. If I’m learning new techniques, I may choose a simpler subject. In every piece, I try to compose it in a way that will engage the viewer, utilizing expression, light, and action.
When I was little, I covered every inch of wall space in my bedroom with dinosaur drawings. For my final projects class at RISD, I painted my namesake, Tyrannosaurus rex. I used the latest in paleontological research to plan the composition, from bones to clay models to the final painting, to bring this magnificent extinct creature to life. Transosaurus Rex, cartoon about a genderqueer T. rex, is currently published in Motif Magazine following a 6-year run in Options Magazine. I hope to do more paleo art in the future.
